How Many Standard Time Zones
Time zones are defined by subdividing the Earth's spheroid into 24 wedge-shaped sections. with bordering meridian each 15° of longitude apart. There are 24 international time zones for the entire world. International time zones with international date line shown in the figure below. The local time in neighboring zones would differ by one hour. However, political boundaries, geographical practicalities, and convenience of inhabitants can result in irregularly shaped zones. However, in a few regions, half-hour or quarter-hour differences are in effect.
